Chiropractic

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine as these disorders can interfere with the body's function and its innate ability to heal itself.

Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT) known as the "Chiropractic Adjustment", is the most common treatment used in chiropractic care in the U.S. SMT describes the process where the hands are used to manipulate, massage, mobilize, adjust, stimulate, apply traction to, or otherwise influence the spine and related tissues.

Other treatment forms that are used by chiropractors for treating the spine, other joints and tissues, include full-spine manipulation, physical fitness/exercise promotion, corrective or therapeutic exercise, ergonomic/postural advice, nutritional/dietary recommendations, relaxation/stress reduction recommendations, ice pack/cryotherapy, extremity adjusting and trigger point therapy.

Over 43 million people see chiropractors every year. They appreciate that it is gentle, and safe, and that treatment is delivered to the patient's level of tolerance.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – HBOT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – HBOT

By delivering pure oxygen administered inside a pressurized chamber, Dr. Wisner uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to safely and painlessly, restore healthy blood flow to oxygen-starved tissues. Normally delivered to tissues via the hemoglobin in red blood cells, oxygen under pressure dissolves in the body’s plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and the lymph nodes from where it is transported to all of the body’s tissues, even those with a poor blood supply.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy also enhances the body’s white blood cells' ability to fight infection, helps the body build new connective tissue, and kills certain types of harmful bacteria.

Stroke victims and those who have suffered head and spinal cord injuries, find Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy particularly effective at helping them to avoid or minimize paralysis, overcome speech difficulties, and avoid other potential impairments.

The typical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment session at Wisner’s Chiropractic Center lasts one to two hours, during which time the one can read, listen to music, or simply relax. Sessions may be repeated, as needed.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Massage involves acting on and manipulating the client's body with pressure where therapists press, rub, and otherwise manipulate the muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs of the gastrointestinal system.

Massage Therapists most often use their hands and fingers, but may use their forearms, elbows, or feet, often-varying pressure and movement. The Massage Therapist’s intent is to relax the soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them, and decrease pain.

There are over eighty different massage modalities, the most popular being Swedish massage, Deep Tissue massage, Pressure Point massage and Shiatsu massage.

The Massage Therapist’s at Wisner’s Chiropractic Center practice:

Swedish Massage, where the therapist uses long strokes, kneading, and friction on the muscles and move the joints to aid flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage where the massage therapist uses patterns of strokes and deep finger pressure on parts of the body where muscles are tight or knotted, focusing on layers of muscle deep under the skin.

Trigger Point Massage (also called pressure point massage), where the massage therapist uses a variety of strokes but applies deeper, more focused pressure on myofascial trigger points--"knots" that can form in the muscles, are painful when pressed, and cause symptoms elsewhere in the body as well.At Wisner’s Chiropractic Center massage involves the client being treated while lying on a massage table in a private room. The massage subject may be fully or partly unclothed and parts of the body may be covered with towels or sheets. Wisner’s Chiropractic Center also offers chair massages also called “Stress Busters” where the subject sits fully clothed in a chair.
Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries

More and more today, athletes are realizing that masking sports injury pain with prescription painkillers merely covers up the symptoms, and can lead to the athlete reinjuring the sensitive area before it has had a chance to properly heal.

At Wisner’s Chiropractic Center, Dr. Teri Wisner and staff recognize that an integrated approach to overall health is what is needed for lasting pain relief and injury rehabilitation.

By paying special attention to the hard and soft connective tissues, the spine, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves, Dr. Teri has found that it is usually possible to return an athlete to peak performance levels far quicker than would be possible thru traditional medicine.

Performance Enhancement and Base Line Evaluations

Performance Enhancement and Base Line Evaluations

Proactive evaluation and testing to establish a baseline before an injury occurs. These performance baselines are not only important for contact sports, like football or soccer, but also sports like cheer and volleyball where a fall may occur.

A Performance Evaluation Includes:
  • FDA approved medical device that is used to evaluate and compare an individual’s baselines and quantitatively assess TBI’s (Traumatic Brain Injury’s like a concussion).
  • Reaction Time Test - Computerized, baseline numbers to use in comparison when a TBI occurs. This gives a subjective number that can be interpreted by a professional instead of just objective findings that may differ between evaluators.
  • Range of motion and neurological evaluation to check potential athletic weakness and establish goals for improved performance.
Children's Spinal Health

Children's Spinal Health

Is your child's head consistently being tilted to one side? Does he or she have restricted head or neck motion, disturbed sleeping patterns or difficulty taking food? At Wisner’s Chiropractic

The position of a baby in the womb, or the trauma suffered during the birthing process can sometimes upset the normal functioning of the young child’s spine. Day to day normal activities in the first years of life - - learning to walk, falling, or any significant shock to the body can induce trauma to the child's skull, spinal column and to the large sacroiliac joints of the pelvis. Chiropractic care eases that trauma and restores the body’s natural balance while providing your child with the maximum potential for well-being. And best of all, Chiropractic care is quick, safe and painless and there are no drugs or invasive procedures.
